Kolkata: Tension started in Bhawanipore area in south Kolkata after police stopped Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president and MoS Sukanta Majumdar from visiting Dr. Rajat Subha Banerjee at his residence.

Notably, Banerjee is the doctor who had asked a few questions to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during an interaction at Kellogg College in London regarding the present situation of West Bengal.

Incidentally, Dr. Rajat Subhra Banerjee’s house is behind Trinamool Congress (TMC) national secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s residence.

On hearing that the police had stopped Majumdar from visiting him at his residence, the doctor walked out of his house to meet the BJP state president on the road.

While talking to the media, Dr. Banerjee was firm that he will take Majumdar to his residence following which police had arrested both the doctor and Majumdar and took them away at Kolkata police headquarters at Lalbazar.

However, police later in the evening had released both the doctor, Majumdar and other BJP leaders and supporters who were detained.

Talking to the media, Dr. Banerjee after being released said that he is apprehending ‘life threat’ after the chain of incidents.

“I have never been to the court but after this incident I am afraid. I have asked the legal wing of BJP to guide me. I am shocked to see that a person cannot freely come and meet me in my house. I have an aged mother and she is also petrified. I will not leave my ancestral house as it is very old. I am a British citizen and hold a British passport and police cannot do this with me,” said Dr. Banerjee.

Dr. Banerjee also slammed Abhishek Banerjee without taking his name.

The BJP state president also mentioned that Dr. Banerjee might have ‘life threat’ after today’s incident.

According to party sources, Majumdar will write a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah informing him about the incident.

Earlier this day, Majumdar had written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla citing him about his convoy attack at Budge Budge in South 24 Parganas on Thursday.

In the letter, Majumdar alleged that the police were ‘mute’ during the incident.

Taking to X, Majumdar said, “The police not only failed to act during the violence—they also failed to take any preventive action, despite clear signs of escalating tension. Even when a Union Minister of State and sitting Member of Parliament was targeted, the state machinery looked the other way. This is a grave breach of parliamentary privilege—a direct and dangerous assault on Indian democracy.” (sic)
