Kolkata: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar sought details of steps taken by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over appointment of DGP.

The war between West Bengal Governor and Trinamool Congress government remained unabated as Dhankhar on Thursday again slammed Mamata Banerjee for flouting Supreme Court directive in regard to appointment of the new DGP.

Seeking details about the steps taken by the Trinamool Congress government, Dhankhar took to Twitter and said that the state government has flouted a SC directive by not initiating the process of the new appointment of the incumbent DGP, as Virendra retires on Aug 31, 2021.

“Sought details of steps taken Mamata Banerjee for appointment of DGP as per Supreme Court directives in Prakash Singh v. Union of India (2006) 8 SCC 1 Names of eligible IPS officers superannuating post-Feb 28, 2022 were to be sent before June 01,2021. The Government of West Bengal was required to send their proposals at least three months prior to the retirement date of the incumbent DGP,” read the tweet.

“Directives of the Supreme Court came to be flouted in effecting appointment of the present incumbent Sri Virendra as DGP. Those concerned with such flouting of honorouble SC order need to be held accountable. Such disregard of the SC directive is not at all appreciated,” further read the tweet.

Notably, ever since the oath-taking ceremony of Mamata Banerjee, the Governor and the Chief Minister were engaged in a war of words in connection with post-poll violence and Governor’s visit to Sitalkuchi in Coochbehar and Nandigram to visit the violence spots.
