West Bengal: Day after state budget was presented, BJP MLA and Centre's ex-Chief Economic Advisor Ashok Lahiri seeks more details

Kolkata: A day after the state budget was tabled, BJP MLA and Former Chief Economic Advisor of the central government Ashok Lahiri sought a list of the schemes which fall under central, state and concurrent lists and has urged the state government to come out with the list of the beneficiaries of all the schemes.

“Immediately CAG audit should be done and lists of several schemes should be presented immediately as there are many schemes that are also sponsored by the Central government. The list of those who are already enjoying the benefits of the schemes should also be released,” said the BJP Balurghat MLA adding that the state government had mentioned over 47 schemes in their budget.

Ashok Lahiri further claimed that he had asked the TMC government to release the list of unemployed and migrant workers in West Bengal.

“The TMC government should also come out clear about their financial condition in order to maintain their long-term mentioned schemes. They should also come out clear about the current numbers of unemployed and migrant workers in the state,” further said Ashok.

Countering the claims of migrant workers, TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee said that in 2020 when the pandemic was at its peak Prime Minister Narendra Modi had no data about the migrant workers.

“11 percent of migrant workers went to various states and what steps did the Centre take last year when the pandemic was at its peak. We have given train fare to help them return to West Bengal. The BJP has no right to speak about migrant workers,” mentioned the TMC secretary general.
