Kolkata: West Bengal BJP youth wing general secretary Pamela Goswami on Friday was arrested for having narcotic products in her car.

Goswami along with her friend Probir Kumar Dey got arrested from the New Alipore area while they were sitting inside their car. A security personnel was also there inside the car.

After being tipped off, Kolkata police followed the movements of Goswami as the BJP youth wing leader used to stop at a particular point, and on Friday arrested them as they found narcotics worth rupees lakhs in her hand bag and below the car seat.

According to police officials, Goswami used to sell narcotics in front of the security personnel.

“The duo will be present before the court on February 20 and we would appeal for police custody,” mentioned the police.

Being extremely close to the senior leaders of West Bengal BJP, the West Bengal saffron camp cried foul against the state government for framing the BJP cadre.

“We don’t know what the actual case is. The Kolkata Police works as the puppet of the ruling Trinamool Congress. Whether the involvement is true or whether she is being framed ahead of the election just to malign the saffron camp is yet to get ascertained,” said West Bengal BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya.

The ruling Trinamool Congress minister Chandrima Bhattacharya however claimed that this is not the first time the BJP leaders or cadres have got involved with narcotics.

“This is nothing new for the BJP. There are several instances where the saffron camp leaders and workers got involved with several scams. The BJP wants to form the state government in West Bengal and through these instances everyone can understand what will happen to West Bengal if the saffron camp is voted to power,” mentioned the West Bengal minister of Housing, Health and Family Welfare.
