Kolkata: Ahead of Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Bengal on July 9, BJP chief whip Manoj Tigga on Monday said that he will campaign for the Adivasi candidate.
“BJP is the only party who just doesn’t speak of upliftment of people especially backward class but does it. The BJP also gave a message that a woman from tribal class and from a distant village can be a Presidential candidate,” said Tigga.
Slamming Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Tigga said that knowing ‘defeat’ of the opposition candidate, Mamata is now saying that she would have supported Droupadi Murmu if she knew BJP’s candidate before.
“Why didn’t she change her mind after she got to know the name of Droupadi Murmu? Sensing defeat she is trying to change her decision,” further said the BJP chief whip, adding that individually he will talk to every MLA and would request to vote for the NDA candidate.
It can be noted that Droupadi would visit the state Assembly on July 9 to campaign for the upcoming Presidential poll scheduled on July 15.
NDA Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu has a ‘greater’ chance to win the poll.
Inaugurating the Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra of ISKCON, Mamata said that BJP didn’t discuss the names of the probable candidates before announcing the name of Droupadi
“I have a sentiment for women and that too from tribal class has a better chance to win especially after the recent development in Maharashtra. The next President of the country could have been decided with consensus had the BJP discussed the name before the announcement. I would have been happy if the candidate would have been decided in consensus,” Mamata was heard saying.
