Lucknow: BSP and BJP today voiced concern in Uttar Pradesh Assembly over delay in giving scholarships to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes students in the state and walked out of the House. The issue was raised by Raghunandan Singh Bhadauria (BJP) with pointed supplementaries from Radha Mohan Das Agrawal (BJP) and Indrajit Saroj (BSP).

Responding to their concern, Social Welfare Minister Avdhesh Prasad said the government was resolved to benefit the students of these sections of the society in an honest manner and officials of his department were in constant touch with central government officials for getting the Centre’s requisite share. Bhadauria tried to raise the issue of corruption in distribution of scholarships.

Saroj alleged that either the state is not interested in providing this facility to the SC/ST students or was not properly taking up the matter with the Centre. He charged the government with being anti-Dalit and staged a walkout shouting slogans. Agrawal attacked the government saying, it had no right to lower the income limit of the beneficiary family and staged a walkout along with the BJP members.
