Jaipur : The Congress has not been able to find a formidable candidate to contest against former chief minister Vasundhara Raje at Jhalarapatan in Jhalawar district.

The party has chosen to field Meenaxi Chandrawat, a Rajput woman who lost two consecutive Assembly elections.
The party has chosen to field her as Jhalrapatan has a sizeable Rajput community votes. The party in the past chose to field a candidate who could make a dent and in the past two Gujjar candidates, including the late Union minister’s wife Rama Pilot was fielded against her, but she won by a thumping majority. The Maharani of Dholpur has found Jhalawar, a constituency that was ruled by the Jhala kings of the Hadauti region. Once Raja Harishchandra Singh was a very popular and strong Congress leader and was the ruler of Jhalawar. But subsequently, the party lost interest and twice the scion of the nearby Kota royals was elected from Jhalawar in the Lok Sabha election. Inderjit Singh the scion of the Jhalawar family studied with Rajiv Gandhi in Doon School, but even after being pursued by late schoolmate Rajiv Gandhi, Inderjit kept away from politics. Her son Dushyant Singh is the member of Lok Sabha from Jhalawar constituency.
Three other royals are in fray in the election this time. The Maharani of Karauli Rohini Kumari is contesting on a BJP ticket. She is a Jadaun Rajput and is a sitting MLA. She is the running favourite as she is very popular in all the castes and communities.
Princess Siddhi Kumari, a sitting BJP MLA is contesting from Bikaner North once again. The 40-year-old maiden and a postgraduate and scion of the Bikaner family whose grandfather late Dr Karni Singh was five-time Independent member of Lok Sabha. She is likely to be a comfortable winner again. The Congress has fielded Gopal Gehlot against her. But another Princess Diya Kumari of Jaipur is not very comfortablet Sawaimadhopur where she is contesting in a constituency where the contest is going to be triangular. The founder leader of Rashtriya Janta Party, Dr Kirori Lal Meena is contesting from this general seat though he is ST. The constituency has more than 21 percent Meena community electors and capitalising on this Dr Meena, the Independent member of Lok Sabha from dausa is contesting from Sawaimadhopur. There are fewer Rajput votes in the

constituency and the Congress has fielded Danish Abrar, son of the
late Union minister Dr Abrar Ahmed who was a Rajya Sabha member and
was killed in a road accident. Dr Abrar’s wife Yasmin was also a
member from Sawaimadhopur. Diya Kumar who is the BJP candidate is already finding it tough to find a space for herself in this seat.
