Uttarakhand: Auto, cab drivers demand Rs 5,000 financial assistance in line with Kejriwal govt's scheme |

Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal-led government has come up with a scheme to provide Rs.5000 financial support to the auto and cab drivers. The AAP government has provided this financial assistance to over 1.5 lakh drivers. Following this scheme, the cab and auto drivers across India are demanding the same from other state governments because the COVID-19 pandemic has hit these people the most.

Auto drivers should be taken care of like Kejriwal government

In the lockdown induced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kejriwal government took care of the auto drivers. Now the auto drivers of Uttarakhand are demanding that like the Kejriwal government, the Tirath government should also take care of them and provide financial assistance. They are demanding that on the lines of the Kejriwal government, the Uttarakhand government should also give them immediate assistance of Rs 5,000. Apart from this, they are also demanding to waive off the road tax, fitness fee, permit fee, insurance for 2 years. Along with this, relief should also be given on the interest and penalty over the debts of the auto owners for buying autos.

Refusal to meet with auto organizations

The office-bearers of auto organizations tried to meet the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. But the Chief Minister refused to meet due to the COVID-19 crisis. In such a situation, the auto organizations have demanded to provide Rs 10,000 financial assistance for two years on the lines of the Kejriwal government.

Auto Union President Pankaj Arora said that COVID-19 has devastated the lives of the auto drivers. He said that the auto drivers were struggling to come out from the loss of the first wave of the pandemic but before that the second wave came, therefore, right now it has become very difficult for them.

General Secretary Kapil Shekhar said that the Tirath government must provide financial assistance to these drivers in the line of the Kejriwal government. An e-mail has also been sent to the transport officer in this regard.
