Unseasonal rain, hailstorm wreak havoc on cash crops in Nashik

Nashik: Cash crops in several acres across seven tehsil towns in Nashik suffered heavy damages as unseasonal rains and hailstorm lashed the district pushing farmers into further distress. According to reports from district headquarters, cash crops like wheat, grapes, pomegranates, onion and chillies nearing harvest, were extensively destroyed in the heavy rains in the district since last two days.

The areas where farmers are severely hit include Niphad, Malegaon, Yeola, Nandgaon and Devla tehsils. Several animals including sheep, goats and hens were also killed due to hailstorm in Yeola. Top Revenue department officials including Revenue Commissioner Eknath Davale has asked Tehsildars and sub-divisional-officers to submit a proper report on crop damages as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Minister of State for Cooperation, Dada Bhuse today visited rain and hailstorm-hit Malegaon, Chandvad and Devla talukas and spoke to affected farmers ensuring them early relief from the state government.
