Jammu : The opposition walked out of the assembly on Wednesday in protest against the civilian killings during the 2016 unrest in the Kashmir Valley and asked the government for judicial probe into the deaths.

The opposition members, including those from the Congress and National Conference, stood on their seats immediately after the Speaker Kavinder Gupta took the chair to begin the day’s proceedings.

The opposition had earlier sought a motion seeking the probe, which was rejected. Shouting anti-government slogans, the opposition law-makers walked out amid the din.

The unrest in the valley began after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on July 8. At least 100 people, mostly civilians, were killed in the stir that disrupted life in the Kashmir Valley for about five months.      —IANS
