Bengaluru : An undertrial who created a major scare at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) here on Sunday afternoon be opening fire indiscriminately was shot dead by a special commando force.
According to sources, the undertrial snatched a rifle from the police who was escorting him and opened fire spraying bullets all around. There were no casualties.
The undertrial who was being brought to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation at around 3.30 pm when he snatched the fully loaded rifle from the guard and hid himself in a room.
Minutes later, he fired 29 rounds sending patients and the police running for cover. Soon, commandos were called in and in a coordinated operation with the police, the undertrial was shot dead.
