Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday took to Twitter and condemned the killing of a tailor in Rajasthan’s Udaipur.
“Violence and extremism are unacceptable, no matter what! I strongly condemn what happened in Udaipur. As law takes its own course of action, I urge everyone to maintain peace,” wrote Mamata.
Demanding dire punishment for the murderers, the Bengal Imams Association also condemned the killing.
Chairman of Bengal Imam Association Muhammad Yahia said that no true Muslim will support such heinous act.
“The name or religious identity doesn’t define a criminal and a murderer. A murderer is known by the crime committed by the person. Islam doesn’t support taking of life of a human being and also due to certain people the entire religion should not be held responisble,” said Yahia in a statement.
It can be noted that a tailor supported the comments of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma on Prophet Muhammad. Following this, two men visited the tailor as a customer while he was working and then killed him.
Following the murder, the two men took to social media and posted videos stated that ‘they are avenging an insult to Islam’.
