Thiruvananthapuram : NRI business tycoon Ravi Pillai stunned Keralites by organising a lavish wedding for his daughter at Kollam on Thursday.
The marriage of Dr Arathi Ravi Pillai with Kochi-based doctor Adithya Vishnu (in pic) is said to have cost Pillai, the head of the Bahrain-based RP group of companies, Rs 55 crore. The marriage was attended by more than 30,000 guests from across the world.
The guests included a galaxy of Mollywood celebrities, central and state ministers, leaders of various political parties and a virtual who’s who of Gulf and some European countries. Union Minister for Telecommunications Ravi Shankar Prasad and Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy were among the prominent politicians who attended.
Many of the foreign guests arrived by chartered flights on Wednesday. The VIPs were hosted at luxury hotels in Kollam and Kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram. The CEOs of some companies are staying back to explore business opportunities in the state.
Spread across four days, the celebrations were held at different venues in Kollam. A grand set worth Rs 23 crore was erected in eight acres of land at Ashramam Maidan for the main function.
