Chennai: Many are feared injured after an express train bound for Ernakulam in Kerala from Bengaluru today derailed near Hosur, railway sources said. The incident occurred near Anekal near Mulagondapalli and Chandrapuram in the early hours today, they said.
While ambulances from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been rushed to the spot, officials are co-ordinating rescue operations, they said. Railway officials said nine coaches of the Bangalore-Ernakulam Inter-City express derailed between Anekal-Hosur, about 45 kms away from Bangalore. The mishap occurred around 7.40 AM Railway authorities have rushed rescue teams to the spot and mounted a massive operation.
Several passengers have been trapped in the coaches mangled due to the impact of derailment and being pulled out, sources said. The injured were being rushed to nearby hospitals, the sources said.
