Mumbai : A two and a half year old girl was pounced upon and dragged away by a leopard on Saturday late night when she was attending nature’s call.

Her mother stood near by on the outskirts of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).

The Bhandup police said the incident took place around 11 PM near the boundary of SGNP, where the adivasis live in an area known as Tembipada.

The deceased, Usha, was with her mother, Sapna Yadav (23), when the leopard took her away. A skull and lower part of the body was found on Sunday around 6.30 am nearly a kilometre inside the park.

An accidental death report has been registered and a police official stated that people staying in the area do not follow the instructions given by the police or the forest authorities, due to which such incidents occur.

There have been numerous such incidents in the past. Authorities feel that their instructions to public ar often flouted owing to which such accidents take place with an alarming regularity.
