Bikaner: In a clear indication that anti-terror operations are still on, a fighter jet of the IAF shot down a military drone in the Bikaner sector of Indo-Pak border. Top defence sources said that the drone had entered Indian airspace on Monday morning. The IAF scrambled its Sukhoi fighter jet which downed the flying device with air-to-air missile.
Meanwhile, reiterating his tough stand against terror, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said last week’s air strike won’t be India’s last such action against terror emanating from Pakistan. Addressing a gathering here, Modi said he will target them (terrorists) “even if they hide in the bowels of the earth”. “If one work is over, our government doesn’t sleep, but gets ready for another task,” Modi said, eliciting a loud roar of approval from the crowd.
The debris of the drone that was shot landed in Pakistan on a sand dune, reports India Today. Immediately there was speculation about what had happened with villagers reporting loud bangs in an area near Fort Abbas, in the Cholistan desert in Pakistan’s Bahawalpur district.
Villagers from the Indian side also confirmed the same. Photographs and a video emanated from the site showing some metal parts that looked like artillery shells, the news magazine said. However, Pakistan military clarified that there was no airstrike and that the metal objects found were fuel tanks dumped by Pakistani jets flying in the area.
Nonetheless, Twitter erupted with speculation that Indian Air Force has carried out another airstrike, this time across the International Border in Pakistan’s Punjab. In fact, some Pakistani news portals even put out this information citing unverified sources.
