Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala today said stern action would be taken to end the violence and clashes between CPI-M and BJP workers in certain parts of the state.

Talking reporters after a top-level meeting of police personnel to discuss the recent clashes between BJP and CPI-M workers, Chennithala alleged that both the parties were “deliberately” trying to create trouble in the state. “Violence in Kannur and Kasargode districts was a planned one and it was suspected that there was a move to spread the violence to other parts of the state,” he said. The government would not compromise in protecting the life and property of the people, he said. “Stern action would be taken to end the violence,” the minister said.

“More police force has been deployed in violence-hit areas”, he said and asked BJP and CPI-M workers to refrain from violence. “Political parties should in trospect whether it was good for them to indulge in violence,” he said, adding, without any provocation even women and children were also attacked. In Kannur, country-made bombs were hurled at the residence of BJP District President K Ranjith yesterday. In continuing violence, bomb attacks in at least four other places took place in Kannur targeting the houses of workers of both the parties on Friday. A CPI(M) worker and a BJP-RSS activist had been killed in two separate incidents in Kasargode and Thrissur districts on August 28.
