SP, Congress announce candidates for assembly by-polls in UP

Lucknow: Ruling Samajwadi Party and the Congress today announced their candidates for the by-elections to Charkhari and Pharenda assembly seats. Urmila Rajput and Vinod Tewari will be Samajwadi Party candidates from Charkhari and Pharenda assembly seats respectively, party’s national spokesperson Ram Gopal Yadav said in a statement here. On the other hand, Congress has decided to field Virendra Chaudhary from Pharenda seat in Maharajganj district and Ramjiwan Yadav from Charkhari seat of Mahoba, Congress spokesperson Virendra Madan said.

By-election to these seats have been necessitated following the disqualification of sitting MLAs Kaptan Singh Rajput of SP from Charkhari and Bajrang Bahadur Singh, BJP MLA from Pharenda. While the SP MLA was disqualified after being convicted by court in a murder case and Bajrang for getting government contracts as MLA. Voting would be held on both the seats on April 11 and results would be announced on April 15.
