New Delhi : Congress President Sonia Gandhi is throwing an Iftar party on July 13 as part of the party tradition to celebrate Ramadan.
The schedule has been drawn up for hosting the party in a five-star hotel here, with Sonia and son Rahul Gandhi personally involved in details. Invitations are being readied and among those in the guest list include all top Bihar leaders from JD-U’s Sharad Yadav and Nitish Kumar to RJD’s Lalu Prasad and NCP’s Tariq Anwar.
The event will have a political significance since Sonia will be filling the political vacuum around Iftaar which Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP are to skip for the second year in a row. Even BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, who was punctual in hosting the Iftaar party, remains undecided because of getting no clearance from the party.
The get-together of all anti-BJP leaders at the Iftar may also lead to some serious seat negotiations on the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections in October. The Congress is seeking 50 seats from the JD-RJD combine in the
243-member Assembly
elections.
