NEW DELHI : The National Advisory Council (NAC), led by Sonia Gandhi, authorised her on Friday to write to the Prime Minister to immediately start enrolling four crore women a year under the new comprehensive social security insurance scheme for the unorganised sector to has 20 crore families ensured the social pension benefit in the next five years.

Sources said she is also writing to the PM to have a single-window dispensation of all schemes to be rolled out under the aegis of the Unorganised Worker Social Security Act instead of six ministries involved carry on own separate dispensation. The social security insurance covers health and life insurance, maternity benefits, girl child related scholarship and pension.

Sources in the finance ministry said Finance Minister P Chidambaram has plans to start consultations with the state governments beginning January to work out implementation in detail. The NAC has, however, suggested that the facilitation centres should be opened in every district and block to enable the people register themselves before the comprehensive net is formally implemented.
