Thiruvananthapuram : In a major boat mishap in Kerala, six people including two women and children died on Wednesday. They lost their lives after a passenger boat carrying about 35 passengers capsized off Fort Kochi.
The accident occurred after the boat, which was on its way to Vypeen Island, collided with a fishing boat at around 1.45 pm.
The boat, which is said to be 30-years-old, split into two in the impact of the collision.
The death toll is likely to rise as the condition of four persons admitted in a local hospital is reported to be critical, said police sources here. Thirty passengers were rescued and shifted to hospitals. Local people swung into action immediately and saved many lives.
