New Delhi: The Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections in these states.
A TV channel’s analysis of the Lok Sabha polls held since 1980 shows that the political party that emerged as the single largest party, and formed the government at the Centre, has often replicated its success in the respective state election, too.
Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has been left out of this exercise and elections won’t be held simultaneously. Currently, the state is under Governor’s rule.
Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti hit out at the NDA government for keeping J&K out of the ambit with the former saying that PM Modi had surrendered to anti-India forces, which was a “crying shame”. Mufti said the announcement had exposed the “sinister designs of the Government of India”. Mufti said on twitter, “Not letting people elect a government is antithetical to the very idea of democracy. “
