Ayodhya case: Samjwadi MP, former Sena MLA surrender in court
Lucknow: Samajwadi Party MP Brijbhushan Singh and former Shiv Sena MLA Pawan Pandey on Saturday surrendered before a special CBI court, hearing the Babri Masjid demolition case, after non-bailable warrants were issued against them. Special Judge Shashimouli Tiwari had on December 17 issued the non-bailable warrants against the duo for failing to appear before the court, CBI counsel Lalit Kumar Singh said. The judge has now recalled the warrants and fixed December 24 as the next date for recording evidence of the witnesses in the case. Singh, the Samajwadi Party MP from Kaiserganj, and Pandey are accused in the Babri demolition case. Singh was the BJP MP from Gonda constituency at the time of razing down of the medieval monument.
Congo woman held in TN for overstay
Tirunelveli (TN) :A 22-year old woman from Congo in Central Africa has been arrested here for allegedly over staying in the country after expiry of her Visa, police said on Saturday. Kidangi C.Sylvia was produced before a court here which remanded her to judicial custody till January 4, they said. According to Police, Sylvia had accompanied her father Kidangi M.Antony, who had kidney ailment, when he came to India for treatment at a private hospital here last year. Her father had gone back to Congo on November 23, 2011 after treatment. Sylvia continued to stay in India though her visa expired on September 4, 2012.
Man chops off temple trustee’s hand
Salem (TN): In a fit of anger, a person chopped off the left hand of a temple trustee for not giving him money from the shrine’s fund for his personal use, police said here on Saturday. Usually after the festival at the Maasilapalayam Mariyamman temple, the balance amount in the fund would be given to indigent people. The man, Rajkamal, went to the temple trust president Arumugam’s house and sought money and when the demand was turned down as he reportedly did not make any contributions to the fund, he got angry and chopped off the trustee’s hand, police said. Arumugam has been admitted to the government hospital here and his condition is said to be serious, sources added.
“Smoking” poster: Mohanlal too lands in trouble
Thiruvananthapuram: After actress Mythili, against whom the Health Department filed a case for appearing on a film poster smoking a cigarette, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has also landed in trouble in a similar case. A summons has been issued to Mohanlal by the Judicial First Class Magistrate here to appear in person on March 18 after the Health Department filed a case against him for appearing in a poster holding a cigar in the advertisement for his latest film “Karma Yodha.” Summons has also been issued to the film’s director Major Ravi, production company Manager and Managers of the three theatres where the film is being screened. The case against Mythili, for appearing in the posters of the film “Matinee” smoking cigarattee, is also being taken up on March 18, department sources said. All posters of Mythili and Mohanlal showing smoking scenes have been removed from the city as they violated the stringent conditions imposed on advertisements for tobacco products, the sources said.
Five ‘extortionists’ lynched
Khunti (Jharkhand) : Five men of an alleged extortion gang were on Saturday lynched by villagers of Manhu in the district. Quoting villagers, Superintendent of Police Amarnath Mishra said the five came to the area around 10 am when they were cornered by villagers and beaten to death with sharp weapons and stones. The dead were identified as Suraj Mahato (22), Pappu (20), Prem (20), Ram Naik (22) and Mahindra Lal Prasad (42). Mahato, the alleged gang leader, was recently out on bail, the SP said. All the five had FIRs against them in connection with murder and extortion, he added.
Man held for raping minor daughter
Jaipur : A man was on Saturday arrested for allegedly raping his minor daughter in Shastri Nagar area here, a top police official said. According to a complaint filed by the 17-year-old victim, the accused, identified as Vijay Saini(40), had raped her on several occasions, additional police commissioner Biju George Joseph said. Saini, a labourer by profession, was arrested this morning from near Okha port in Gujarat and placed under arrest, he said
