There is no need to avoid alcohol after you have taken your shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, clarified the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in a list of FAQs (frequently asked questions). "As per experts, there is no evidence of alcohol impairing the effectiveness of the vaccine," said the Ministry.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the independent regulator in the UK has said that there is currently no evidence that drinking alcohol interferes with the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has also clarified that none of the available vaccines affects fertility of either men or women, as all vaccines and their constituents are tested first on animals and later in humans to assess if they have any such side effects. Vaccines are authorized for use only after their safety and efficacy is assured, the Ministry added.
Moreover, the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (NEGVAC) has also recommended COVID-19 vaccination for all lactating women, terming it as safe with no need to stop or pause breastfeeding before or after the vaccination.
