Jammu: Security forces have dug out ammunition and explosives, including grenades, believed to be left out during India-Pak conflicts in 1971 from the border belt of Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

Based on an information from a villager, police and army dug out the cache from village Berian in the district yesterday, police officials said.

They recovered arms and ammunition, including 35 grenades of HE-36, four boxes full of 7.62 mm rounds, which were used in SLR, LMG and other weapons and three bags full of loose rounds. While one full box had 450 to 500 rounds, three bags had about 500 loose rounds, they said.

Police suspect that the ammunition and explosives were left out probably during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
