Kolkata : The last phase of campaigning for the two Assembly bypolls was marked by a political clash, rally and demonstrations by opposition and ruling Trinamool Congress over the Saradha chit fund issue.
The women’s wing of the Trinamool Congress led by West Bengal law minister who is also the minister of state for health, Chandrima Bhattacharjee observed a sit-in demonstration in front of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in CGO Complex in Salt Lake area.
They were protesting the CBI for harassing ruling party ministers and leaders during their investigation in Saradha chit fund scam at the time of the bypolls. Chandrima Bhattacharjee alleged that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre has been trying to tarnish the image of the Trinamool Congress by only summoning the ruling party members for interrogation.
She said that the CBI was trying to protect the original culprits by not summoning them. She alleged that most of the chit funds were set up during the regime of Left Front government.
