New Delhi: Congress leader Ajay Maken, who met Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung here on Friday to draw his attention towards the Delhi Government’s move to hike the salary of the MLAs, accused Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of committing an illegality by introducing and passing the bill without the President of India’s consent.

“I have been informed by the Lieutenant Governor that only permission was sought to seek approval from the President on this bill, not to introduce this bill in the assembly,” Maken told the media after the meeting.

“Unfortunately, the AAP Government again in order to benefit their own MLAs have committed an illegality by introducing and passing a bill without the consent of the President of India. This was supposed to be passed only after the approval of the Rashtrapati ji,” he added. Maken further said that the AAP should be renamed as VIP party.

The Delhi Assembly had yesterday approved a 400 percent pay hike for MLAs and ministers, by passing the Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Government of NCT of Delhi (Salaries, Allowances, Pension) Amendment Bill 2015. The House accepted the recommendations made by an independent committee of three experts
