Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala’s ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), which is reeling under corruption charges, was on Tuesday rocked by fresh allegations of graft in the Public Works ministry under the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the second largest constituent of the ruling front.
The charge was leveled by ruling front legislator and former forest minister K B Ganesh Kumar against three aides of Public Works Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju, while moving a calling attention motion on the poor state of roads to famed pilgrim centre Sabarimala in the State Assembly.
The actor-turned politician, who was forced to resign in April last year due to discord in his family, accused the three-Naseemudin A, I M Abdul Rahim and Abdul Rasheed-of taking bribe for awarding contracts and in the transfer of employees.
He said that the ministry was being virtually controlled by the trio.
Ganesh said several proposals he submitted for development of roads in his constituency were rejected at the behest of these aides.
He said though he had brought this to the notice of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy no action was taken against them. Ganesh, who belongs to the Kerala Congress (B), demanded a probe into his allegations by a committee of the Assembly.
He said he had also evidence regarding corruption against another minister. Speaker stopped him from going ahead with the charges in the absence of prior permission.
