New Delhi : The Congress on Thursday challenged the Bhartiya Janata Party to disclose the amount it spent on organising the “Chai pe Charcha with NaMo”
(discussion over tea with NaMo) for its PM candidate Narendra Modi at 1,000 locations in 300 cities in a single day.
“We are told that an estimated Rs 250 crore were spent in the name of “chaiwallas” which is too much. The particular target group would have benefited much more if the money had been used for their direct benefit instead of shedding crocodile tears about them,” party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said. He said, there was a paradox that the BJP talks of the chaiwallas’’ morchas but blocks the street vendors bill in the Rajya Sabha which is to benefit the ordinary people eking out the day-to-day living on the streets and they include chaiwallas too.
Asked about the ugly scenes in the Lok Sabha on Thursday said the Congress unequivocally condemns them.“If difference of issues can be allowed to lead to such physical consequences, then that is the end of parliamentary democracy. We have to make a simple approach, this is non-negotiable even if I disagree violently with you or you disagree violently with me and there is no question of such things continuance.” On Lok Sabha Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj questioning proper introduction of the Telangana Bill, he said:”Curious that a party professing for long time that they support Telengana appears to be finding every indirect form of objection to the introduction and further proceedings of the Telengana Bill. ,
