Speeches are a very important part of election campaigns and sometimes leaders make some statements which stir controversy. A similar thing happened when Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) leader Upendra Kushwaha made controversial statement regarding Ramayana’s ‘Sita’.

During his election speech in Bihar’s Darbhanga, Kushwaha made a controversial statement in regard to Sita, the wife of Lord Rama. While talking about the double face of BJP, Kushwaha took example of person who performs role of Sita during Ram Leela.

Kushwaha said that everyone bows head for Sita when she comes on the stage but the same Sita can be seen smoking behind the curtain. “In Ram Leela, when the curtain rises a person comes dressed as Sita mata…..people who watch Ram Leela bow their heads out of respect, if you go behind curtain the same Sita ji can be seen smoking a cigarette. This is the face of BJP”, he was heard saying during the speech. Have a look at the video below.

Kushwaha is former Minister of State for HRD ministry. He is a Member of Parliament from Karakat Lok Sabha seat in Rohtas district of Bihar. He is also former Rajya Sabha member. In Lok Sabha Elections 2019, he is contesting from Bihar’s Karakat and Ujiarpur constituency.
