Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), March 26: Samajwadi Party chief and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav has issued statement after the controversy sparked by his party leader Ramji Lal Suman's remarks against Rana Sanga. Taking to his official social media account, Akhilesh Yadav said that the Samajwadi Party does not question the bravery and the patriotism of Mewar King Rana Sanga. He also stated that none of their objective is not intended to insult the Rajput community.
Akhilesh Yadav said in the tweet, "The Samajwadi Party believes in social justice and the establishment of an egalitarian society. We want to ensure that even the weakest individuals receive respect. Our objective is not to insult any historical figure. The Samajwadi Party does not question the bravery and patriotism of Mewar’s King Rana Sanga."
Attacking the BJP over the issue, he said, "The BJP has always used certain aspects of history for political gain and to divide the country along religious and caste lines. Our MP has merely attempted to present an example of history being written and interpreted from a one-sided perspective."
He further stated, "None of our efforts are meant to insult the Rajput community or any other community. In today’s time, past events, meaning ‘history,’ cannot be interpreted in the same way. Decisions in governance were made based on the circumstances of their time. A democratic system cannot function today based on historical events."
Akhilesh further criticised the BJP and said, "The BJP government should rectify its divisive tendencies and focus on issues like employment, healthcare, and security for the people. The BJP is a divisive party."
A controversy erupted in Agra over Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman’s remarks on Rana Sanga. The Karni Sena has announced a protest outside the MP’s residence, vowing to inscribe "Rana Sanga" on his house.
Following this, a large number of supporters gathered near the residence and attacked his house. Visuals show a massive crowd vandalising his house and throwing chairs in the air. In response, the police have tightened security and deployed additional forces to maintain law and order. Some police officers are also reported injured in the attack.
Amid the ongoing controversy over Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman sparked a fresh debate in the Rajya Sabha on March 21 by referring to Rajput ruler Rana Sanga as a "traitor."
During his address, Suman remarked, "BJP leaders often claim that Muslims have the DNA of Babur. But Indian Muslims do not see Babur as their ideal. In fact, who brought Babur to India? It was Rana Sanga who invited him to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. By that logic, if you claim Muslims are descendants of Babur, then you are also descendants of Rana Sanga—a traitor. We criticise Babur, but not Rana Sanga."
