New Delhi: PM Modi has constituted the new BJP Parliamentary Party executive, including Amit Shah without post in his continuing capacity as the national president, and designating Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as the deputy leader of the party in Lok Sabha.
Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot is the leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha, the post hitherto held by Arun Jaitley for the last five years, and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal as the deputy leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi is the govt chief whip, with Arjun Ram Meghwal and V Muraleedharan as deputy chief whips in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha respectively.
Party chief whips in the LS and RS are Dr Sanjay Jaiswal and Narayan Lal Panchariya respectively.
Gopal Shetty is treasurer while the secretaries in the two Houses are Ganesh Singh and Bhupinder Yadav. There are also 18 whips in the LS, 15 state-wise and three for women MPs. In the RS, six whips have been named.
The special invitees to the executive include Nitin Gadkari, RS Prasad, Smriti Irani, Narendra Singh Tomar, J P Nadda, Om Prakash Mathur, Nirmala Sitharaman, Dharmendra Pradhan and Prakash Javadekar.
