Jaipur : The Vasundhara Raje government will revive the pension for all the MISA detenus who were jailed during the emergency in 1975. This was decided at a meeting of the Cabinet here on Friday. The BJP government in September 2008 had taken a decision to grant pension worth Rs 6,000 per month to MISA detenus and free medical treatment at government hospitals.

The Congress government scrapped the pension scheme in 2008 on grounds that beneficiaries included people who were involved in criminal activities while the credentials of some pensioners were dubious. The scheme was scrapped as the government learnt that several unscrupulous elements had availed the pension, which could be verified against jail records.
MISA detenus will shortly be entitled to a new pension scheme wherein the amount of monthly contributions would be fixed by a committee.
