Rahul Gandhi who was addressing several party meetings had an unintentional stay due to some technical reasons at Sangamner in Ahmednagar on Friday night.
Gandhi had a tight schedule for the day and his journey’s first destination was Patna for which he left in the morning but due to some technical issues the plane returned back to Delhi and another helicopter was arranged. After Patna, the Congress President addressed meetings in Samastipur (Bihar) and Balasorev (Odhisa). Later in the day, he reached Sangamner to support NCP candidate Sangram Jadhav and while on his way back the sun had set down and the helicopter could not fly.
There are two Congress strongholds from Ahmednagar district – former minister Balasaheb Thorat and Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil. Sources who spoke to Mumbai Mirror said, “After the meeting, Rahul Gandhiji told us that he would be staying overnight. We told him we have simple arrangements in Sangamner, a bungalow in our engineering college. He agreed.”
Sources further added, “He normally carries a bag of clothes with him, but since he had to change his flight at Delhi, the bag was not brought along. We opened a shop to get a T-shirt, shorts and some undergarments. Since he didn’t have clothes, our people washed his kurta-pyjama.”
Gandhi had a simple dinner with some fruits. While next day Youth Congress chief Satyajeet Tambe Patil’s family served him some Maharashtrian breakfast. It was Satyajeet’s wife Maithali’s birthday as well and their daughter Ahilya made a drawing for Rahul. He then left for the Nashik airport where Gandhi had to wait for some more time as the pilot got into a debate with SPG staff, urging to inspect their bags. The pilots argued that they had been flying for Mr Gandhi for a long time and sought an apology but soon Gandhi intervened and apologized on everyone’s behalf and soon the flight left.
