Patna: The President of Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi and Chief Ministers of six Congress-ruled states will attend the ‘Jan Akansha Rally’ at the historic Gandhi Maidan here on Sunday. This will be a first Congress rally in Patna after Rajiv Gandhi had addressed a rally back in 1989, when Satyendra Narayan Sinha was Chief Minister of Bihar. Congress is out of power in the state since March, 1990.

The reason this rally assumes political significance is because Congress will be launching their election campaign and organising a rally independent of their alliance partners in the state. Massive mobilisation has been done by the party for last one month as the party MLAs and other leaders were assigned to make arrangements for bringing in at least 5000 people each from their constituencies.

The party leaders led by AICC General Secretary, Shakti Singh Gohil, held several corner meetings in the state capital on Friday evening, appealing people to join the rally. Security arrangements have also been planned well in advance by the police as over 3000 policemen have been deployed in and around Gandhi Maidan from Friday itself and the entry to Maidan for the morning walkers was closed from this morning as a security measure.

The six Chief Ministers – Bhupesh Baghel (Chhattisgarh), Kamal Nath (Madhya Pradesh), Ashok Gehlot (Rajasthan), Capt Amarinder Singh (Punjab), D Kumaraswamy (Karnataka), Narayan Swami (Pondicherry) will reach here on Sunday morning.
