Chandigarh: The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab on Monday appointed its Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha as the chairman of the state temporary advisory committee amidst strong resistance by opposition parties ever since his name was doing the rounds.
The appointment was made five days after chief minister Bhagwant Mann set up the said committee on matters of public importance while the opposition accused him of running a submissive government in Punjab.
Issued by chief secretary V K Janjua last Wednesday, the government notification said the panel would advise the government on the issues of public administration. According to official information, this committee headed by a chairman and run through members would not be entitled to any compensation, remuneration, or perks, according to the notification.
Slamming the chief minister Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja on Monday accused him of ceding too much power to Chadha through the committee. Warring took to Twitter to say in Punjabi that Chadha’s appointment as the chairman of the said panel was equal to making him the chief minister of Punjab and that Punjabis did not vote for this change.
The Shiromani Akali Dal also slammed the AAP government tweeting: "The Puppeteer, the puppet and puppetry. The Circus Master removes the curtain, putting the show manager @raghav_chadha formally on stage’’.
It went on to say: “De facto CM Chadha taking over formally as Controller General is no news for Pbis. They always knew who pulls the strings in @BhagwantMann puppet dance. Now even the fig leaf of an elected govt is removed, striping naked the toothless tigers whom Pbis had placed their trust in."
