NEW DELHI : The Congress is contemplating to project Rahul Gandhi by getting an appeal issued in his name to the government to revise its decision of rationing only six subsidised LPG (cooking gas) cylinders a year to a family to show he sympathises with the people.A strategic decision is understood to have been taken that the government should relax the rationing on his appeal and not under pressure of Mamata Banerjee or the Opposition organising a naionwide strike on Thursday. Rahul will not be making an emotional appeal but support his demand with authentic figures to establish that six cylinders a year are just not enough for a family, the party sources said. He will be flaunting the statistics coming out of the government”s own committee headed by Unique Identification Authority of India on the subsidies.
The crucial committee report says 80 per cent of families use 10 cylinders or less a year. Rahul may issue an appeal to raise the ceiling of the subsidised LPG cylinders from 6 to 10 to protect 80 per cent of the consumers.
