Itanagar: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has alleged that the ruling Congress government in the state “is continuously cracking ugly jokes with its public by violating the constitutional spirit of ministry downsizing and prudent use of public money”.
The party’s chief ministerial candidate Laeta Umbrey today said the appointment of more than 24 Parliamentary Secretaries with the rank of ministers of state along with team of PA’s, PSO’s, drivers, peons and other staffs and similarly, a number of chairmen and deputy chairmen with red light provisions have taken a heavy toll on the public exchequer.
“To add salt to the wound, the ‘myopic’ government has gone ahead with appointment of more than dozen of officiers on special duties (OSDs), Advisors and other extra functionaries to drain the ‘already starved’ state exchequer,” Umbrey said in a statement.
“The creation of large number of chief engineers’ posts in various departments has further shaken the financial health of the state,” maintained the MLA from Roing constituency in Lower Dibang Valley district.
He further pointed out that in the name of austerity measures the government has already procured 523 luxury vehicles, mostly for parliamentary secretaries, Chairmen and OSD’s.
“The vehicles costing the state exchequer at staggering sum of Rs 41,92.
42,989 and other associated expenditure on poll and maintenance, driver were ‘uncalled for’,” he said and urged for immediate corrective measures and to enhance the revenue base.
