'Positive trend': Centre says COVID-19 cases have been consistently declining for a week in 30 states/UT

The Union Health Ministry today updating on the current COVID-19 situation in the country said that the recovered cases are more than daily cases now, with recoveries increasing to 92 percent now while 20 lakh tests for COVID-19 have been conducted on an average in one week.

Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry said that while addressing the media further revealed that 1,27,000 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours.

"Since May 28, the country is reporting less than 2 lakh cases which shows there is a decline of infection in the country, " Mr Agarwal said further.

He further revealed that active cases are down by 50 percent, 1.3 lakh decrease in active cases in a day. "Besides 30 states/UT cases have been consistently declining for one week, it's a positive trend," he added.

India's COVID-19 case tally continues to drop, with a little above 1.27 lakh fresh cases being reported on Tuesday morning. According to the Health Ministry this is the lowest single day surge in 54 days. The death toll has also dropped over the last few days, with 2,795 fatalities being reported in the last 24 hours. At the same time, 2,55,287 people were discharged.

With this, India's active case load has now dropped to 18.95 lakh. At the state level, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu now lead the charts with more than three lakh active cases each. Kerala and Maharashtra follow, with an active caseload that remains above the two lakh mark.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India's active caseload dropped by 1,30,572 in the last 24 hours, with the recovery rate increasing to 92.09% today. The weekly positivity rate is currently pegged at 8.64% while the daily positivity rate dipped to 6.62%. At the same time, India's vaccination drive continues, with 21,60,46,638 doses having been administered thus far.
