Rebel RJD leader to take on Lalu’s daughter
patna: Former Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Ram Kirpal Yadav, who revolted after being denied a ticket for the Lok Sabha polls, on Monday said he would contest from Pataliputra here against party chief Lalu Prasad’s daughter. “I will contest from Pataliputra. This was decided at a meeting with my supporters,” Yadav told the media here. He revolted after Lalu Prasad decided to field his elder daughter Misa Bharti from Pataliputra as the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) nominee. Yadav has not said whether he will contest as an Independent or as another party’s candidate. Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are both wooing him.
CPI-M to go alone in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), which had a seat-sharing arrangement with the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the 2009 polls, on Monday said this time it would fight the elections alone in Odisha. The party will contest two Lok Sabha and 12 assembly seats, CPI-M’s state secretary Janardan Pati told IANS. Elections for the 147-member assembly and 21 Lok Sabha seats will be simultaneously held on April 10 and April 17. Pati also announced the names of the constituencies and names of candidates for one Lok Sabha seat and 10 assembly seats. The names of the candidates for the remaining seats would be announced later, he said. “We did not want a seat-sharing arrangement with the BJD because the state government has become pro-corporate and has been neglecting the poor,” Pati said.
