PC defied Sonia diktat by attending Goa meet

NEW DELHI : The Congress is understood to have expressed displeasure to Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on behalf of its president Sonia Gandhi for attending the Think2013 meet organised in Goa by Tehelka weekly magazine despite an advisory from her office to all Congress leaders to stay away.

Other union ministers cancelled their air tickets to Goa on the advisory issued by the Congress President’s office not to attend the meet since it was being organised by Trinamool Congres MP K D Singh, who now owns the magazine.
The party sources said Sonia was unhappy at Chidambaram attending the meet without bothering to even check who else was slated to be present in the particular session he was booked as embarrassing pictures of him with Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef at the event went viral on the net.
Zaeef, who was a deputy minister in the Taliban government in Afghanistan, had been declared a terrorist by the US government after it invaded and overthrew Taliban from power. He was nabbed in Pakistan in 2001 and spent five years in the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison.
As such, questions are being asked as to how this terrorist was given the Indian visa to travel to Goa. He addressed two sessions at Think2013 on Saturday and Sunday.
After his release from the US custody, Zaeef has emerged as Taliban”s ambassador, moving around for the peace talks with the western world.
