On Thursday, the Gaya police arrested parents of a 16-year-old girl and their butcher friend for murdering and beheading her.
According to the Hindustan Times, the 16-year-old girl was found beheaded on January 6. The cops have said that the minor’s family killed her out of a misguided sense of shame. Gaya senior superintendent of police Rajiv Kumar Mishra told the leading daily, “It’s a case of honour killing. The girl eloped with someone on December 28 from her home in Patwa panchayat but returned after three days. This angered the parents, who plotted the cold-blooded murder with the help of a butcher friend.”
The news of murder went viral on social media, after which hundreds of residents of Gaya took to the streets demanding the arrest of the killers. At the beginning, the sense was that this was an incident of gangrape. But eventually, the cops proved that the murder was plotted by the victim’s family. During investigation, the girl’s family confessed to the crime.
The cops first came to know about the girl’s parents’ hand in the murder when the victim’s younger sister said she last saw the girl with their father’s friend, a butcher, on December 31. The victim’s three siblings said the girl went to a place unknown to them on December 28 and returned three days later. The cops recovered the 16-year-old girl’s beheaded and mutilated body from a field. When the body was recovered, the cops called the girl’s parents to the police station to investigate and record statements, but they made a lame excuse and didn’t show up. After this, the cops picked up the butcher, who later narrated the entire incident. The SSP told the leading that the Patwa panchayat socially boycotts people who marry or have affairs with people from other communities.
