Parrikar hoists tallest tricolour in Ranchi

Ranchi : Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday hoisted the largest tricolour in the country atop the tallest pole at Pahari Mandir in Ranchi on the occasion of birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

The flag is 66 feet in height, 99 feet in width and it is hoisted on a 293 feet tall pole. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Raghuwar Das said that this tallest National flag of the world has given special identity to Jharkhand. Many important dignitaries, along with large number of people, were also present at the occasion.

The National flag, weighing 80 kg, will remain hoisted 24-hours from today onward and twenty sodium vapour lights will illuminate it during night.

Until now Faridabad had the tallest National flag at the height of 246 feet.

Defence Minister also laid foundation stone online of a proposed Jharkhand Shakti Defence University at adjoining district of Ranchi-Khunti.

Jharkhand is the third state in the country, which will have such University. –ANI
