Gandhinagar : Leaving no stone unturned to avoid going to jail, Gujarat’s additional director general of Police P P Pandey moved the High Court again after the special CBI court rejected his plea for anticipatory bail in connection with the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case on Tuesday. The High Court will take up his petition today.
Matters came to a dead end when the Supreme Court on July 26 directed him to present himself before the CBI court on July 29. He had managed some relief on July 29 when a CBI Court granted him anticipatory bail for 48 hours after a hearing that continued for over four hours. Subsequently his reprieve was extended by the High Court up to July 6. The Special CBI court rejected his bail plea.
Pandey was named as an accused in the preliminary charge sheet filed by the CBI in Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case along with suspended IPS officers G L Singhal, N K Amin, D G Vanzara, retired DSP J G Parmar, Deputy SP Tarun Barot, and commando Anaju Chaudhary.
Pandey’s lawyer Nirupam Nanavati during the argument had alleged malafide on the part of the CBI which has been hounding him.
However, CBI Lawyer Ejaz Khan rejected the allegations and drew attention to the fact that CBI has been entrusted investigation of the case by the order of the Gujarat High Court. He also stressed on the fact that Pandey has been knocking all doors to get the FIR quashed and his conduct has not been one that befits a senior police officer..
