Jaipur: The body of Shakirullah, a Pakistani serving prison term in the central jail in Jaipur, killed on February 20 in a brawl with four other jail inmates, has been sent to Amritsar from where it would be handed over to the Pakistani officials.

The embalmed body of the Pakistani prisoner was sent by a police vehicle to Wagah border, where the officials of the Ministry of External Affairs would hand it over to their Pakistani counterpart.

Shakirullah Khan belonged to Sialkot and was arrested for espionage and anti-India activities. He was convicted by a Jaipur court for a life-term in 2017 and was lodged in the central jail. He was killed in a scuffle with fellow inmates over turning down the volume of the TV in the jail.

Police booked the four prisoners on charges of murder and have procured their production warrant, and they would be charged for the murder. The high commissioner of Pakistan in New Delhi was informed of the death of Shakirullah. The high commissioner after almost a week responded and agreed to take the body at Wagah.

The jail authorities set up a three-member post-mortem committee headed by the IG (prison) Rupinder Singh and the report was submitted to a judicial magistrate, who confirmed the post-mortem. The body at the Wagah border would first be given to the Pakistani officials, who in turn would hand it over to the Shakirullah family.
