Jammu : The Pakistan Army fired at Indian positions along the LoC in Poonch on Sunday, violating a 2003 ceasefire, the defence ministry said. The unprovoked firing that began around 8 am in Mendhar sector lasted for 30 minutes.
Army spokesman Lt. Col. Manish Mehta said the violation was ‘effectively and appropriately responded to’ by Indian troops. There were no casualties. “Pakistan carried out firing with automatics and mortar shelling. No casualty was reported,” said the spokesperson.
This was the 10th ceasefire violation along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu & Kashmir since October 1. There have been seven ceasefire violations along the LoC in Poonch and three along the international border in Jammu.
On Saturday, Pakistan Rangers used mortars to target Indian positions on the international border in R S Pura sector of Jammu district. A 12-year-old girl was killed and five others were injured Friday when Pakistani troops targeted Indian forward posts along the Line of Control in Poonch district. The army said there was also a brief ceasefire violation along the LoC in Gulmarg sector of north Kashmir Friday night.
