New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Thursday painted “the frightening and scary scenario” by the Opposition as singularly responsible for its rout in the LS election, claiming it only consolidates the groundswell in favour of Modi. “I have long argued that aspirational India looks for a better tomorrow.

They are averse to suicidal choices,” he said in a series of tweets and in an article. He claimed the Opposition’s attack on the EVMs and the EC is an “advance alibi” for their defeat, asserting “their leaders represent temperamental mavericks, some highly corrupt and many a governance disaster.”

“No Indian is believing their assurance that they can come together after the election? They are institution wreckers. They do not allow Parliament to function. They attack and intimidate judges. Now, EC is their next target,” Jaitley wrote. “The common thread which brings Oppn together is negativism — to get rid of one person.

They have no agreement on either a leader or programme. They are a fractured Oppn which could not come together before or during the election,” he underlined, noting “not so positive reason for the PM’s high acceptability levels is the absence of any cogent or coherent alternative, the “TINA” factor.”

“Which means the Oppn is giving vague & unreliable alternative, the same is either too scary or absolutely frightening. Except in the last few days, no political analyst had foreseen the velocity of this groundswell in favour of PM even in the state like Bengal,” he said.
