New Delhi: Opposition leaders have come out strongly against the reported hike in FDI cap in Defence and Railways by saying that they will oppose this move of the NDA government.

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Naresh Agarwal asserted his party’s opposition to the move by stating that this is how the East India Company had entered India.

He also said, “FDI will make India and its farmers slave to foreign countries. We will tell people how they have been fooled by those who got elected to bring good days. We will oppose FDI.”

Congress’ Rajeev Shukla said, “During UPA, BJP were the biggest opposers of FDI, now when they are in power they are the biggest supporters of FDI.”

Atul Anjan of the Communist Party of India (CPI), added, “If we are to bring FDI in every sector, then we should also bring a foreign Prime Minister, why do we need Narendra Modi?”

The Trinamool Congress has also said that the party will protest in parliament against this total subversion of democracy which shows arrogance of the government.

According to reports, in a cabinet meeting held last night, the cabinet raised the FDI limit in Defence to 49 percent while allowing 100 percent FDI in railway infrastructure.

This move to raise FDI cap in Defence and Railway comes close at the heels of the one to raise FDI cap in insurance sector from 26 to 49 percent.
