Patna: JDU will not compromise with its principles with the BJP and would continue to oppose triple talaq bill, the citizenship bill and article 370, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said here. Nitish said while the JDU welcomed 10 per cent reservations for the economically poor, his party would insist on separate quota for economically backward castes (EBCs) too. He had written letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier suggesting reservations for EBCs as done by his government in Bihar.

To protest against the citizenship bill, a three member delegation led by party secretary general KC Tyagi is going to Assam on Tuesday to participate in a rally organised by the Asom Gana Parishad. Talking to mediapersons at his official residence here, Nitish said that the proposed 2021 census should be treated as base for fixing reservations. ST/SCs have their reservations on the basis of their population, but since there was no caste based census since 1981, OBCs and EBCs have not got their due on the basis of their population.

The CM said that the 124th Constitution Amendment Act would be implemented in Bihar to provide ten per cent reservations for the economically poor. State government is getting the issue examined – whether it can be done through a legislation in the state legislature or through an executive order. “We are seeking legal opinion on the subject”, Chief Minister said. BJP-ruled states have already implemented it and Gujarat government was first to notify the reservations for economically poor.

He favoured the elections through the EVMs and said they are perfect and right choice of the voters. Since EVMs introduction, voting percentage has gone up. Every polling booth should have VVPAT attached to the machines. Nitish called the media reports about mob lynching in his home district – Nalanda as Bullshit (Faltu) and said there had not been a single case of mob lynching in Bihar. It all started with the actions of the so-called Gau Rakshaks (cow vigilants) in other parts of the country.

He commented, now the newspapers are having 24 pages and the news channels are running 24 hours, hence they call even a small incident of thieves being assaulted in a home as mob lynching. This is the human psychology to brutally assault a weak person in the villages. \”I have studied this pattern since my childhood\”, he claimed. And, now the social media also jumps into create panic, he said ends
