Jaipur : The arrest of Jupiter alias Chandresh Jain, a bookie from Jaipur came as a big relief for the Mumbai police who was looking to nab him.
Jain, was close to the main kingpin Ramesh Vyas of Mumbai and was involved in contacting bookies in Pakistan. The Mumbai police was also on the look-out for him, but it was Delhi police who eventually nabbed him from a city hotel on Sunday.
Jain, an old-timer in betting was allegedly working for Dawood and was in regular touch with Javed Chautani in Pakistan.
A team of Mumbai police was looking for Jain and five others in the state. The Mumbai police arrested Badrinarayan in Sujangarh in Churu district recently and during interrogation it was found that Ramesh Vyas had provided him nine telephone lines. The Mumbai police has already arrested Devendra Kothari of Bikaner, and three others and are looking for more in the state following the arrest of Jain on Sunday.
Jain was earlier arrested by the Jaipur police after monitoring a call from Dubai last year, but was let off but after the spot fixing incident involving Rajasthan Royal cricketers Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan, Jain went underground.
According to DCP (Crime) of Mumbai police, Satyanarayan Choudhry, the Mumbai police interrogated the jeweller brothers Sanjay and Sandeep Chhabra in connection with the spot fixing. The two brothers were granted bail by a Mumbai court after they surrendered before the Mumbai police after their arrival from Dubai.
